Online therapy in New York, with therapists who actually fit

Some weeks the hardest part of therapy is getting there. The train’s late, the meeting runs over, the kid gets sick, and the session you needed is the first thing to go.

Online therapy takes that off the table. Same licensed therapists, same work, from your couch, your parked car or a closed office door. If you’re anywhere in New York State, you can see one of us by secure video. The same goes for New Jersey, Florida and every other state where our therapists are licensed.

Is online therapy as good as in person?

For most of what brings people to us, yes. Research on video therapy for anxiety, depression and trauma shows results that hold up next to in-person care. What matters most is the fit between you and your therapist, and showing up consistently. Online makes the showing up part a lot easier.

It isn’t right for everything. If you’re in crisis, or you need a higher level of care, we’ll tell you and help you find it.

What we help with online

How it works

  1. Book a free 15-minute consultation. Tell us a little about what’s going on. Then expect a phone call from our office.
  2. We check your benefits. Before your first session you’ll know what your plan covers and what you’ll owe.
  3. We match you. Not with whoever has an opening, but with the therapist who works with what you’re dealing with.
  4. Log in from anywhere private. Sessions run on SimplePractice, a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform built for therapy. You’ll get a link before each session.

Online, in person, or both

You don’t have to pick one forever. Plenty of our clients come into our Midtown Manhattan or Port Washington office some weeks and log on from home others. If you’d like the option, tell us when you book and we’ll match you with someone who sees clients in both. You can also meet the therapists first.

Insurance and cost

We’re largely an out-of-network practice, but there are a few ways insurance can work here. The whole practice is in network with Northwell Direct, some of our providers are in network with other plans, and for everyone else we provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. We’ll help you verify your benefits before you start. See cost and insurance details.

Online therapy FAQ

Do I have to be in New York for online sessions?

You need to be physically in a state where your therapist is licensed during each session. Online therapy is available anywhere in New York, and in New Jersey, Florida, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia, South Carolina, Texas, Colorado, Alaska and Washington, DC. Not every therapist is licensed in every state, so tell us where you’ll be and we’ll match you with someone who can see you there.

What do I need for a session?

A phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a decent connection and a private space. Headphones help.

Is it secure?

Yes. Sessions run on SimplePractice’s HIPAA-compliant video, never FaceTime or a free Zoom link.

Can I switch to in-person later?

Yes, as long as your therapist sees clients at one of our offices. Many do.

What if I’m not sure online is for me?

Try it. A lot of people who doubted it end up preferring it. If it isn’t working, we’ll talk about it.
