ADHD Therapy in NYC and Online
You can run the meeting, hit the deadline and still lose a whole Sunday to one email you couldn't make yourself open. People call you organized. You know what it costs you.
Adult ADHD rarely looks like the kid bouncing off the walls. More often it looks like overpreparing, overthinking, and a quiet sense that everything takes you twice the effort it takes everyone else. We help adults, teens and kids work with their brains instead of against them, in Midtown Manhattan, in Port Washington and online.
What ADHD can look like in adults
- Knowing exactly what to do and still not being able to start
- Four hours of hyperfocus on the wrong thing, then panic
- Perfectionism as a survival strategy: if it's flawless, no one sees how hard it was
- Losing track of time, keys, conversations, the thread of your own sentence
- Feeling things fast and hard, especially criticism
- Burnout that a weekend off doesn't touch
- A diagnosis that came late, or hasn't come at all
Many of our clients, especially women, spent years being told it was anxiety, or that they just needed to try harder. Sometimes it is anxiety. Sometimes it's both. Sorting that out is part of the work.
When high achievement hides ADHD
Masking is the full-time job of looking fine. The color-coded calendar. The three alarms. Rereading every email before you hit send. It works, right up until it doesn't, and the crash usually gets blamed on stress.
If that sounds familiar, our founder wrote about it in The Perfectionism Paradox, and Sam Sundborg goes deeper on masking and burnout in The Heavy Invisible Noise.
How therapy helps with ADHD
Willpower isn't the fix. Systems that fit how your brain actually works, and a lot less shame, usually are.
- Practical strategies. CBT adapted for adult ADHD: getting started, planning, time, and the tasks you keep circling.
- Untangling ADHD from anxiety and perfectionism. They feed each other. Pulling them apart takes pressure off both.
- Emotional regulation. DBT skills for the big, fast feelings that come with ADHD and rarely get talked about.
- Support for the people around you. Partners, and parents of kids and teens with ADHD.
- Coordination with your prescriber. Our therapists don't prescribe medication, but we're glad to work alongside your psychiatrist or doctor.
Wondering if it's ADHD?
You don't need a diagnosis to start therapy. Plenty of people come in with a hunch and a list of examples, and that's enough.
If you want a formal evaluation, we coordinate psychological testing through our partner, United Assessments, so the results feed straight into your care. Learn about testing.

ADHD therapy FAQ
Is perfectionism a sign of ADHD?
It can be. Many adults with ADHD lean on perfectionism to compensate: overpreparing, overchecking, holding themselves to impossible standards so nothing slips. Perfectionism on its own isn't a symptom, though, and plenty of perfectionists don't have ADHD. A therapist can help you figure out what's driving it.
Can you be a perfectionist and have ADHD?
Yes. It's especially common in high-achieving women, whose ADHD often goes unnoticed for years because the perfectionism hides it.
What is ADHD masking?
Masking means working hard to hide ADHD traits so you look organized and on top of things. It often involves elaborate systems, constant self-monitoring and a lot of energy spent behind the scenes. Over time it tends to lead to exhaustion and burnout.
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to start therapy?
No. You can start therapy without one. If you'd like a formal evaluation, we coordinate psychological testing through our partner, United Assessments.
Do your therapists prescribe ADHD medication?
No. Our therapists provide psychotherapy and don't prescribe. If you take medication or are considering it, we're glad to coordinate with your psychiatrist or doctor.
Does therapy help adult ADHD?
Yes. CBT adapted for adult ADHD has solid research support, and many people do well combining therapy with medication. Therapy also helps with what often comes along with ADHD, like anxiety, low self-esteem and burnout.
Can I use my insurance?
Many of our clients use out-of-network benefits, and we provide monthly superbills to make reimbursement easier. We're in network with Northwell Direct, and some of our therapists are in network with other plans. We'll help you figure out your options during your free consultation.
