Emily Torpey, MHC-LP
Mental Health Counselor, Limited Permit | Virtually across NY | (She/Her)
Emily Torpey, MHC-LP, believes that therapy should be a safe, supportive space where individuals feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. She approaches counseling with warmth, empathy, and curiosity, recognizing that each person's experiences are unique. Her goal is to create a comfortable, nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their emotions, better understand themselves, and move toward meaningful personal growth.
Using a person-centered and trauma-informed approach, Emily works collaboratively with clients to explore how their experiences, relationships, and thought patterns influence their emotional well-being. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Therapy, and elements of Emotion-Focused Therapy to help clients develop greater self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, and navigate life's challenges. She also values the mind-body connection and incorporates mindfulness and grounding techniques to support emotional regulation and overall well-being.
Emily has experience supporting adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and challenges with self-esteem. Her clinical background includes working with survivors of domestic violence, helping individuals process difficult experiences, recognize unhealthy relationship patterns, establish boundaries, and reconnect with their sense of identity and independence. Above all, Emily believes that healing happens through connection, compassion, and empowerment. She strives to help clients feel more confident in their own voices, develop healthier relationships with themselves and others, and recognize the strengths they already possess.
